SF 723: Amendment – Remove provision that would double the size of feedlots requiring environmental review

Senate Environment & Natural Resources Omnibus Bill

The Senate Environment Finance Bill included a provision that would have doubled the size of feedlots requiring environmental review. Current law requires environmental review for proposed feedlots or feedlot expansions with more than 1000 animal units. The provision in the Senate bill would have doubled this to 2000. This means that a producer could propose a feedlot with up to 1999 animal units and neighbors would not be entitled to have the project receive environmental review.

An amendment was offered to remove this provision, meaning the current law would remain in effect requiring feedlots with over 1000 animal units to receive environmental review.

What Would Happen?

A “Yes” vote means the new provision is removed and feedlots with more than 1000 animal units continue to get environmental review.

A “No” vote means the provision is not removed. If the omnibus bill is ultimately approved, only feedlots with more than 2000 animal units would receive review.

How The Senate Voted

A “No” vote means the provision is not removed. If the omnibus bill is ultimately approved, only feedlots with more than 2000 animal units would receive review.
